Background: Veterinary pathology at Nottingham University provides a diagnostic service on a wide range of animals, mainly companion and farm animals (part of disease surveillance activity with Animal and Plant Health Agency). The unit is involved in the clinical teaching of year 5 veterinary students. Five pathologists included ECVP and ACVP board-certified, oversee surgical and post-mortem case submissions.

Project description: Applications are invited from veterinary graduates to undertake a three-year training program (residency) in veterinary anatomic pathology. The successful candidate will focus on companion and farm animal pathology with some exposure to avian pathology and veterinary clinical pathology. The trainee will be registered for an MVM degree at the school of veterinary medicine and science and will undertake a research project on some aspects of veterinary anatomic pathology. The training program encompasses small group teaching, seminars, research, diagnostic duties (companion and farm pathology). Successful residents will be eligible for the ECVP and/or ACVP board certification examination upon completion of the residency.

Sponsor Value

The successfully selected candidates will receive an annual tax-free stipend of £21,000 for three years, subject to the satisfactory annual assessment. UK applicants will be provided a tuition fee.

Eligibility Criteria

This is a fully-funded studentship open to UK nationals.  EU and international applicants are also welcome to apply, however international university tuition fees will apply.  From 1st August 2021, EU and International students will be liable for tuition fees at the international rate and must be able to fund the difference between “Home” and “Overseas” tuition fees themselves.  Fee status will be assessed upon application.   For Home student eligibility guidelines, please refer to the UKRI website.
